Social Commerce Site Lockerz Launches Pinterest-like Platform

Social commerce site Lockerz launched a new Pinterest-like platform, where users can create and share their collection of images or videos found on the Internet. Founded by former Amazon and American Eagle Outfitters executive Kathy Savitt, it aims to be the most visited commerce site for men and women ages 13 to 30.

About Lockerz

Lockerz was created with the idea that brand ambassadors within a social network can influence consumer behavior. Its purpose is to create a community of people who love to shop and share their collection on the Internet. But compared to Pinterest, Lockerz members can get actual rewards from sharing content on the site.

Tagged with “A Social Life That Pays,” Lockerz is based in Seattle, with a growing number of members from across 195 countries. It’s funded by Liberty Media Corporation, Live Nation Entertainment, DAG Ventures, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

How Lockerz Works

Lockerz is easy to use. Members can collect items by “grabbing” images and videos from the Internet or other members in exchange for points called PTZ. All content are posted in a Pinterest-like manner, indicating the user who uploaded it, the number of grabs and who grabbed it. A user’s collection, on the other hand, is grouped in an album with the number of PTZ earned displayed at the bottom.

Users collect and share online content by bookmarking the site on their browser or by manually uploading it from various sources. After that, they cash their PTZs in for discounts on apparel, games, or any other items found at the Lockerz store.

Earning PTZ and using it to earn discounts on different items is what makes Lockerz different from Pinterest. Since its initial release, its members were able to use almost 3 billion PTZ to save millions for brands like Nintendo, Olympus, Canon, SkullCandy, Xbox 360, James Jeans, 7 for All Mankind and many more.

Lockerz vs. Pinterest

With a platform similar to Pinterest, many users think that Lockerz’s idea is lame. The platform is not original, and the feature is one thing that the online pin board can make in the future. Moreover, the social commerce network might emerge as a spam machine for people who want to quickly broadcast their brand on the Internet. However, a member-to-member transaction within the network is not permitted.

Although they present content in the same manner, Pinterest and Lockerz have their own road maps to serve their purpose. Nevertheless, this indicates that more people are looking for ways to interact with other users on the Internet.
