Facebook Users can Hide Their Game Tickers Now

After Facebook’s decision to remove the Ticker for the time being, its users can now see an option to hide the feature. The people behind the social media giant realized that users rarely click the stories on Ticker. By letting their users hide the option; this gives them an insight that the feature needs further improvement.

Facebook’s Ticker provides the same content seen on the News Feed, that’s why it’s given little value. As posted on their developer blog, the social network also finds that it doesn’t drive significant traffic for games and apps pages. In turn, they’ve decided to remove the Ticker for now.

It should be recalled that the social network giant recently tested a games-only activity feed. It’s a sub-menu option under the Apps and Games dashboard called “Friends Activity”, in which it condenses all game stories from a user’s friends. Furthermore, it also made accessible to those who visit the dashboard. Thus, creates a one-stop destination for Facebook games.

On the other hand, the Ticker is supposed to be filled with actions like “watch,” “run,” or “cook” when more people use the Open Graph apps. It will show what the user’s friends are doing, while the “News Feed” aggregates posts that they actively share. Unfortunately, it doesn’t drive significant traffic for pages and applications. That’s why Facebook are looking for other ways to improve and simplify the games experience.

The Future of Facebook News Feed and Timeline

Other than enabling users to hide the Ticker canvass; Facebook is also bringing the game stories from mobile feed to the online feed. They might also consider redesigning the News Feed in order to make it less cluttered. It may appear more like a Timeline, with two columns of content and different boxes for specific activities.

Users also have the option of having their game activities appear on their Timeline. Facebook recently launched a new Timeline unit that will integrate a user’s top game activity. This includes the games that the user plays the most, his or her top score and achievements. This will enable quick re-engagement for users and discovery among friends.

Meanwhile, Facebook will retain the game bookmarks, as it generates traffic and re-engagement for games and applications. Nevertheless, Facebook needs to find a way on how apps and pages can be easily discovered by their audience.
